Strategy & Soul for the Rising Entrepreneur

Who Is This Chick Anyway?

Hello gorgeous! Welcome to my blog Strategy & Soul for the Rising Entrepreneur! If you’re looking to elevate in 2020 and beyond, you are in the right place!

You may be wondering who is this chick anyway? Which is why I wanted to pop by today to give you a little bit of background and context so you’ll know how and why we are on this journey together! And don’t worry, I’m not posting my entire autobiography in one go here, more to show you that we are probably more alike than we are different!

I was raised by my mom, a single mom of three little kids under the age of ten. With six figures in debt and on her own financially, she determined to find a way to not just get ahead, but give us a dream life. From those dark days when it became difficult to buy groceries, she found the vehicle to help her do just that, and created a multiple seven figure business, becoming sought after as a speaker, trainer, coach and author worldwide.
When in college I asked her if I could attend a semester at sea, she said yes, and I literally sailed around the world for four months, taking classes on a cruise ship and exploring thirteen ports of call from South America to Africa on to India and all across Asia. Thus my love affair with travel was born.

My twenties were spent aimlessly trying to find out what I wanted to do with my life, as I quickly learned I was not cut out for traditional employment. I didn’t like someone else telling me what to do and I grew bored easily, being tied to a desk and building someone else’s dreams with no flexibility, time freedom or money left over at the end of the month to follow my dream of continuing to travel the world!

Another passion was (and still is) interior design, and so I sought out an internship before launching my own successful company. That’s about the time I met my husband, Neil who is also an entrepreneur. We married and had our daughter Sophie, and with his business thriving, we decided I would stay at home with little one.

Fast forward a few years later when we hit an unexpected financial disaster and lost just about everything overnight. Finding ourselves starting over much later in life, it was clear that I had to go back to work. But as I pondered my dismal options, I realized that what I lacked (in addition to prosperity and abundance!) was clarity and direction for what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to do something purposeful, something that I could get passionate about, have fun with, and use my creative powers. Flexibility was also key, because I couldn’t face giving up the time freedom to raise my daughter. I didn’t want to miss a single precious moment of her childhood.

So when it became difficult to figure out how we were going to pay the rent, I had to make a decision and fast, and that’s when I found my other passion: helping ambitious women (and a few men!) to see that there is another way. That by harnessing the power of social media, in this modern era, anyone can build an online empire working flexibly from home. All you need is wifi and a dream!

As if by magic, the vehicle presented itself to me, and I threw myself in head first with no excuses, learned as much as I could as fast as I could, and now I’m living my passion! In just the last two years, I’ve been able to take Sophie to Barcelona, Dubai, Stockholm, Rome, Monte Carlo, Thailand, and this year we are headed to Australia and the Bahamas, and beyond. Now with a blend of mindset and strategy, I’m coaching others how they too can earn what they’re worth and design a life they love!

Become a WOW Woman

Hello beautiful friends! Today we are exploring the fifth of the seven core principles for getting to the top in your own business: becoming a WOW woman. As you begin to master these seven principles, you’ll know you are on the right path and that your success is inevitable. How did you decide to Go Self Made and start your own beauty business?
The entrepreneurial bug bit me at a very early age. I can remember back to the time when I was in middle school using my Halloween candy as inventory to sell to other kids at the play ground; up until the time when I was in high school starting my own Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day baskets to sell to family members, church members and anyone that I could come in contact with. After I graduated from cosmetology school, I knew that I wanted to be in charge of my own hours, how much income I was going to make, and the prices that I charged. I decided to step out and give it a chance at age 19! In today’s world I believe EVERYONE needs to find at least 1-2 ways that they can generate and bring in their own income whether that be a company they join with or something they start on their own.

How did you grow your business so big so fast that you had to hire a team?
My mindset shifted when I realized the only way for my company to grow was to hire on additional talent. I was a one-woman show and I was having to turn down bookings left and right because I was already booked personally. I knew that if I wanted to expand that meant getting more girls so I could duplicate what I was already doing. It was a slow process because I needed everyone to mesh together; I’m not a fan of big egos.

The faster way that I grew my business though was through collaborations and networking. Getting in front of people so they could see our team’s work. I found a reason to start a conversation with anyone I felt would be an amazing resource to refer to our future clients. I made so many great connections and they started recommending me left and right. I knew that I needed to grow before I was ready so that when the bookings started coming in I would be fully staffed to handle the load. I used to wait until the perfect moment to put a plan into action but I realized very quickly that if I started to operate from a view point that things were already booming that I would set myself up for success other than waiting until the load got crazy then trying to scramble to make things work. I’m a firm believer that the universe will never give you an opportunity that you are not prepared for..so the sooner you get ready the better!

What made you decide to scale your service-based business into the online space?

This is such a great question! After growing my business and my team I started having additional free time because I didn’t have to take on all the bookings myself anymore, I was able to start booking my girls on gigs while I stayed home and worked on the business side. My business had reached a milestone and I wanted to achieve more growth, so I started looking into some of the goals that I’d written for myself and got back into some of the things that really lit me up and that I was also teaching. Last year I took the time to attend a cosmetology instructors course and for six weeks that was my happy place. I wanted to do more teaching but I’m not a fan of being in one spot for too long so I though about teaching different subjects online. This way I could still teach even while on vacation or while traveling on the road. And then it hit me that I only had one source of income, and in order for me to make money either my team or myself would have to leave home in order to get paid. That was not cutting it for me.

I was ready to start thinking outside of the box, but I knew that first I needed to get clear on my goals. After a tarot card reading session, mediation, and taking some time for myself, the answer hit me. I decided to go out on a limb and start another business as an online educator for creatives and beauty pros, teaching them how they can level up their mindset while growing their business. Sharing knowledge is something that I love to do because before I got to the point of where I am in business now, I was struggling trying to figure things out on my own. I didn’t want to invest in myself and I was scared that the money I would invest in online course, coaches and mentors wouldn’t pay off. But after I took the chance and hired a mindset and business coach, the world looked completely different. And that was the same moment that my business took off.

I want to provide people with clarity, confidence, and to let them know that they will never be given the “perfect moment and perfect situation” to start, they just have to go with a gut feeling, faith and confidence that they can do whatever they put their minds to.

What do you love most about working in the world of social media marketing?

I  have the ability to reach as many people as I want to. You can do as many or as few platforms as you want. As long as you have a set strategy, your time on social media can help you bring in more clients and more profit to your business regardless of the field you work in.

If you had one tip for an ambitious woman  looking to start a home-based business marketing online, what would it be?

My tip would be go for it! You will never know what could have been if you are too scared to make a decision to go for it. Stop waiting for the perfect time or more money because if you are not taking a chance today to make tomorrow look different you will always have the same struggles you have today. Try it out and give 100% effort and don’t be afraid to ask for help or guidance when you need it.
